Community Service is an important way to share scientific knowledge, be a steward for societal benefit, and to monitor for bias and corruption. Dr. Fitz currently volunteers for the following activities:
Citizen Scientist activity with Mississippi and Louisiana commercial fishermen as part of the CONCORDE consortium.
Appointment in 2015-2016 by Governor Jindal and the Louisiana state legislature to the St. Tammany Levee, Drainage, and Conservation District Board, known generically as the St. Tammany Levee Board.
Dr. Fitz coordinated an American Meteorological Society storm surge modeling short course on January 10, 2016. The classes included training sessions for a one-dimensional model, ADCIRC, and SLOSH. These notes are available in the presentation section as well as weatherclasses.com
